Heart warming movies make me cry. They inspire me to show the good in this world. Especially now, when times seem dark due to everything going on in the world. Not only have I been on an Adam Sandler kick recently, I have been on a watching movies kick. I don’t know if it is because I love to watch Holiday movies right around now or what, but it is something.

Working third shift watching movies is what keeps me motivated and not so down. I was once asked by my husband what inspires me. I was once asked on a questionnaire the same question. Well, the answer to that is a good heart warming based on a true story, movie. Tonight I watched Instant Family and Bombshell. I know that the second one isn’t a cheesy heartwarming movie, but it is inspiring. Both of them were!

As inspiring as Bombshell was to watch that isn't the movie I am going to be reviewing today. I am going to be reviewing Instant Family. The movie is incredible. The 2018 film received an %81 on Rotten Tomatoes. Which I think should have been %100 but that is my personal opinion. I am a big sap. I once cried over Air Bud when I was a kid because of the scene where the kid tells the doggo to go away. I digress, John Morris and Sean Anders did a great job writing this up. The cast was impeccable and kept me focused on the TV rather than the other tasks I was doing. Which is saying something since the average adult has an attention span of 7-12 seconds. This movie pulled me in right away. Mark Whalberg and Rose Bryne did great as playing adoptive parents as well as the kids (Isabela Merced, Gustavo Escobar, and Julianna Gamiz).

To summarize the movie; we have house flippers, Pete (Whalber) and Ellie (Bryne), feeling as if they are in a rut. They both decide to adopt and proceed to take classes to become foster parents. At first they aren’t so sure until a young woman who grew up in the system gives a speech about her life and her being adopted by two wonderful people. Pete and Ellie decide that it is for them and go to a foster kid fair where they meet Lizzy (Merced). Right away they want to adopt her, however she comes with two younger siblings Juan (Escobar) and Lita (Gamiz). Shocked they decide the hell with it and take all of them in. Months of ups and downs go by and the kids’ mother shows up and wants to take them back. Ellie and Pete want what is best for them so they have to decide to fight or let go.

This movie again had me focused on the story. Though it says it is inspired by a true story it isn’t an actual event that took place. Sean Anders and his wife’s life experience brought this story to life. I have to say my husband and I have two kiddos of our own and we want more. Instead of having more kids the old fashioned way we decided a long time ago that we wish to adopt. I would definitely recommend watching this movie. The talent chosen, the comedy, the ending, everything about this movie was amazing hands down!

Here are some facts about adoption and foster care for those of you who are wondering. There are over 400,000 kids in foster care today and only roughly 135,000 are adopted each year. Those numbers are just in the U.S. that isn’t counting the kids in other countries. Most people don’t want a teenager or an older kid. They want the babies. Which is fine, go get em! However, the sad fact is that the teens and older kids get bounced around in the system and then age out. Statistically %28 of these kids end up with nowhere to go and homeless. That is a rough start to begin adulthood like that.

There are ways that you can help. Research and education is key to starting anything. Not only at the end of the film do we get a great link that helps spread awareness but there are many others out there. Google and Bing magic helped me find most of them. It is also where I gained most of the statistics on the matters of adoption and foster care.
